  • More Butter Please…

We’ve rolled out some subtle new features here at SoulPancake. Let’s take a few minutes to go over some interesting and crucial new additions to our community.

    Show Us Your Mug

Everybody needs an identity. By now you may have noticed a small image next to your remarkably thoughtful comments.  To customize your image, simply login to Soul Pancake and click the Change Your Settings tab from the top toolbar.  To change your image simply click Choose An Image.  Once you have found your perfect mugshot, go ahead and click Save Picture.  Next you can crop, drag, pull and bend your image until you get it just the way you want it.  When you think your image is perfect, simply click SUBMIT and that’s it, you’re ready to roll.

Quick Titles on the Question Collective

In an effort to make the Question Collective more elegant and interactive, as well as adding some eye-candy in the process, we have integrated some new hover over effects that come alive when you hover over a thumbnail on either the homepage grid, or any thumbnail in the Question Collective.

    Keep a Count

While we all absolutely love to see and read your thoughtful and in depth comments, answers and assertions, we do have a 4,000 character limit.  We have instituted an easy way for you to keep count of the amount of characters that you have left when leaving a response.  You will now notice a character count down on the bottom left corner of the input field.  This will notify you if you pass 4,000 characters.  Don’t worry, you will not lose what you have written, the submit button will become inactive, and you’ll get some visual cues. In reality though, 4,000 characters is plenty of space.

    Summing it All Up

Alongside some of the more notable features mentioned above, we’ve been working really hard on the image handling and processing happening behind the scenes. We’re laying down the groundwork for some really exciting stuff to come. You’ll notice a new universal header, and some general refinement and optimization throughout. We are more than excited about the response and interest our community has given us so early on. We hear you loud and clear and continue to work tirelessly on features that will complete the “social loop.” We’ll keep you posted on our progress.

Enjoy! and be sure to stop by SoulPancake.

    1. First of all more websites and communities should announce features like this. It makes it so much easier to know what’s going on.

      Thank you Soul Pancake !

    2. Awesome changes, this fixes a lot of the things that was bugging me. Thanks!

    3. I think the changes are good, but they seem to have rendered the site inactive more and more often with bugs. While it’s a great site, too many visits in vain do tend to spoil one’s apatite for pancakes even with the extra protein the bugs may add.
Do you know where I can find some waffles?

      Griz

    4. Hey Griz, any idea what type of bugs you’re experiencing? We haven’t run into any issues that have rendered the site inactive. If you’re browsing the site in Internet Explorer 6, then there’s nothing we can do.

We do not support IE 6 :)

I would simply upgrade to a better browser, something more up to date… However, if you’re still experiencing bugs, be sure to let us know where they are so we can squash them.

    5. I think the upgrade is ten times better! Great work Soul Pancake team!

    6. I love the avatars.

    7. @Mark: Thank you so much… A lot more to come!

@SmithStone: Me too. Adds a much needed personal and subtle direct energy to the experience. Absolutely.

    8. An edit capability would truly be an upgrade I could believe in, as well as a preview and auto spacing at least. I would have been happy to ad the if I had known it was needed.

      FreeDem

    9. Hey FreeDem,

As for an edit capability. I can tell you that we are absolutely working on a solution you’ll love, as well as some great preview functionality. This goes for comments, as well as a nifty experience for submissions.

In terms of a roadmap (not that you asked), we are currently working to perfect the user experience of those features, and once they’re up to par, we’ll roll them out.

For auto-spacing, are you referring to the text in your submissions? Or the ability to auto-space your image? A tad confused on that one :)

      Let me know…

    10. Great work on the site! The traffic it’s getting is amazing.

Your Facebook Page is bringing a lot of content here, which is good, though a lot of the discussion is also happening there instead of the site itself.

Rather than compete with Facebook, it might be good to integrate Facebook Connect with the site, in order to help it go more viral (publish to people’s news feed, seeing which of your friends use/visit the site) as well having more people discuss the topics/contribute (by allowing login with your Facebook id).

      Just some thoughts.

    11. I like how the avatars help personalize a person.

I’d like to suggest though, now that these images have sort of brought it up, that SoulPancake allow users to have Profiles. You know: Bio, Interests, and something that’s seemed important to me recently, user history. What posts they’ve done, their favorite discussions, etc.

I’ve been having problems recently reaching my favorite discussions. The front page gets updated on a daily basis, which I like, but it sort of buries discussions that are still going on. Worse still, I’m not able to find other interesting posts by certain users without said profile features.

      Just a thought.

    12. Tamato…. Just sit tight a littttle while longer ;)

    13. Just a question about privacy issues – any way to disable SP stuff turning up in a Google search? Thanks!
